The purpose of this study was to examine, among 115 students majoring in child care, how to prevent them from skipping breakfast (66 students were in the intervention group and 49 students were in the control group). Participating students monitored themselves by keeping track of the dates that they ate breakfast only once a week for 5 weeks. The percentage of students in the intervention group who ordinarily skipped breakfast but started eating breakfast more often, due to self-monitoring, significantly improved, from 27.4 to 16.8. The contents of the students’ meals did not change throughout this period of examination. Students not only kept track of how often they skipped breakfast, but also of how many hours they slept per night.
