 note = {In this paper, I examine the change in the usage of nominative particles at an early stage in Middle Japanese.　It is shown that nominative particles were first used in conjunction with Sino-Japanese verbs, especially those consisting of one Chinese character.　This difference between Sino-Japanese verbs and other verbs is not seen in Heike Monogatari but is clearly seen in Japanese commentaries (Shômono) on Chinese classics.　The discrepancy between the two types of writing can be accounted for as a result of the fact that Sino-Japanese verbs were more indigenized in the latter type of writing.},
