First, this study argued against the “wipeout theory” indicating the extinction of the Britons in England after the Anglo-Saxon invasion.  Second, this study analyses the dialectological differences between the Wessex and other dialects by comparing two versions of Caedmon’s Hymn: that in Bede’s Historia ecclesiastica gentis anglorum and its Old English version.
