This “Academic Japanese” is designed to gradually connect the Japanese class to specialized subjects. In this paper, we introduce the course content and reveal the students’ reactions to the class by examining questionnaire results. Specifically, we found that the students from non-kanji areas tend to recognize the class contents and the textbook slightly more difficult than those from kanji areas; however, many students considered this class to be meaningful. Moreover, the students in the department of Political Economy were conscious of the connection to the specialty and evaluated it more than the students in other departments.
