Grounded in sociocultural theory, this qualitative study examined videoconferencing as a tool that provides opportunities for real-time engagement and facilitation of the learning process. The main data collection method was a survey questionnaire taken from 18 participants enrolled in the Faculty of Social Sciences at a private university in Tokyo. Qualitative and thematic analyses were carried out with the assistance of the NVIVO 12 program.
