In Japan, there have not been many studies on parental intervention in children’s internet use.  First, it is necessary to examine the extent to which findings from other countries can be applied to Japan.  In addition to risk reduction by restricting the use of the internet, parents expect that providing more opportunities where children can experience the use of the Internet will lead to fostering children’s digital skills and knowledge.  Therefore, it is important to consider a balance of restriction and opportunity in parental mediation in Japan.
