 note = {Dr. Kiyoshi Sakon proposes an interpretation of the Bible which is based on its literary structure. This is very useful for our research, because we are interested in the unity of piety and science (pietas et scientia). In this paper, “persuasive power” is regarded as the concept that can unite piety and science. We believe that we can approach this unity with the help of Dr. Sakon’s concept. Persuasive power should be the goal of sermons in the Christian Church. First, we will discuss Dr. Sakon’s idea of the interpretation of the Bible based on its literary structure. Then, we will present a concrete example of this kind of interpretation by examining chapter 45 of Genesis. Finally, we will present a sermon as an example of this kind of interpretation.},
