In thefields of medicine, nursing, social work and education, academic research is actively conducted andincludes religion, psychology, philosophy and sociology. The first step in spiritual care is to assessthe spiritual needs and the dimensions of pain. Many spiritual assessment methods have beendevised by chaplains, medical doctors, nurses, and social workers. One of these, Spiritual History,is used by doctors in their practice. These methods are primarily based on personal experience,not on scientific data.
